So to use it on only one computer you can use only one license of houdini indie. They say the max engine is coming soon, but it’s out since a month! Houdini Engine Indie comes with its own Mantra token. Houdini Engine Indie is a standalone licence that can be used on another computer to either run the Houdini Engine inside other apps or run in batch mode to generate distributed renderings and simulations. Houdini Digital Assets can be accessed from the Orbolt Smart 3D Asset store or created in Houdini Indie for sharing with other artists. Your Houdini Indie license can be used to run Houdini Indie in batch mode or to load Houdini Digital Assets into other content creation apps such as Autodesk® Maya,® Cinema 4D, and 3DS Max®, or game editors such as Unity® and Unreal®. And once you are in 3ds max and render from there, you are using your 3ds max or vray license so you don’t have limitation from sidefx anymore…Īnd even if it becomes developped by sidefx and they charge 99$ a year for it, it will be less than having to buy let’s say rayfire (385$), fumefx (845$), phoenixfd (around 1000$), stoke(595$), frost(495$), bulletFx(260$), grow FX (325$), hairfarm (699$) etc etc all those price in USD and I’m in Canada with a down the drain canadian dollar, all plugins that I have already bought and that I just renew and upgraded! But I’m not sure the engine is ready to replace all of those plugins yet so I will keep updating them until I can replace them by the engine, but I will be testing this ASAP cause it is maybe the case… we will see… And maybe it will save my business cause all those plugin cause me headaches cause they don’t always work well together, all of them work with their own logic so they are time consuming to learn and they cost too much for me!Ībout licensing here is what they say on sidefx webstore: The one for 3ds max for now is developped by a third party who is not paid by anyone to do it so he just distribute it for free and obviously he didn’t spent time implementing a license system into it. I think Houdini engine for maya is different since it’s developped by SideFx. It seems to me that instead of buying so many expensive plugins for 3ds max, I can now just use houdini indie (for only 200$) and create plugins for max that I will load via houdini engine! That’s the best news of 2015 for me! Also i don’t feel like I need to learn the MCG anymore… I will instead learn Houdini more and more! You just have to find the right link on Git hub here it is (just clicjk on “latest binaires” to download it from dropbox and there is a document explaining how to install it): Before, to model such a volume I would have use Krakatoa with some Magma magic that I didn’t really understand that I just copied from bobo and the mesh it with frost and it was fast but with houdini engine the vdb are even faster and it’s easy to understand their logic!Īnd the best of all is that Houdini Engine for 3ds Max is totally free. I created a swiss cheese plugin using the vdb feature from Houdini, now inside of max. you expose the parameters that you choose and they appear in 3ds Max and you can tweak them and see the change in the viewport in real time. I didn’t find anything about that here or anywhere and I had a hard time finding where was the uinstaller and the doc but it’s finally here: Houdini engine for 3ds Max and yes you can really do stuff that only Houdini can do but inside of max.

If you want to use an external MIDI keyboard with your setup you should keep these things in mind:ġ) Set Sundog's MIDI In to your external MIDI keyboardĢ) Don't use your external MIDI keyboard as an input device in Ableton Live Ableton Live should not send MIDI notes back to Sundog! Otherwise it might happen that these notes will trigger Sundog to instantly send new notes to Ableton as well, and the whole circle starts again. Please make sure that you don't create a nasty feedback loop with your MIDI connections. This way the plug-ins will always stay on the preset that you chose inside the DAW and not change their sounds from time to time. Important: I highly recommend to set all instrument numbers inside Sundog to "Off" if you work with synth plug-ins! Now all the armed tracks will respond to the channels that you have set in Box 1 before.īox 3: You can use different plug-ins or Live instruments in your channels - I use Sylenth1 here for example Make sure that you have clicked on the "I-O" button in Box 1b before, as you can see theseĬombo boxes only if you have activated that viewīox 2: If you Cmd-Click (Mac) / Ctrl-Click (Windows) the small recording markers you can arm multiple tracks at once. Please take a look at this image:īox 1: You have to set the Ableton Live tracks to different MIDI channels, so that each instrument will respond to separate MIDI note events. Then you have to "arm" the tracks of Live. This article only lists Forgotten Realms deities in Appendix B of the Player's Handbook. If you're playing a cleric or a character with the Acolyte background, decide which god your deity serves or served, and consider the deity's suggested domains when selecting your character's domain. Or just make a mental note of the gods who are revered in your DM's campaign so you can invoke their names when appropriate. Or you can pick a few that your character prays to most often. From among the gods available, you can choose a single deity for your character to serve, worship, or pay lip service to. Your DM determines which gods, if any, are worshiped in his or her campaign. And a few people dedicate themselves entirely to a single god, usually serving as a priest or champion of that god's ideals. Many people have a favorite among the gods, one whose ideals and teachings they make their own. People in the Forgotten Realms, for example, might pray to Sune for luck in love, make an offering to Waukeen before heading to the market, and pray to appease Talos when a severe storm blows in - all in the same day. Many people in the worlds of D&D worship different gods at different times and circumstances. When gods walk the world, clerics channel divine power, evil cults perform dark sacrifices in subterranean lairs, and shining paladins stand like beacons against the darkness, it's hard to be ambivalent about the deities and deny their existence. Religion is an important part of life in the worlds of the D&D multiverse. Global Dev Setupįor installing tools globally, I've read about nix profiles, but I was unsure about how to use them with Flakes. I have read that flakes and nix are still considered alpha but from my perspective right now it feels 95% done - and maybe other projects would have called this a finished product by now. Only go declarative: I will never install a package by typing a CLI command, but always editing some configfile and running a "converge" script. It seems the new world and the old world sometimes are incompatible, and you need to decide which way to go consistently. Only use the nix tool, instead of the older nix-env etc tools.Embrace Nix Flakes: I'll only use nix flakes, especially after reading this blog post. When reading about the ecosystem, I saw there are lots of patterns how one could use Nix and this is in flux right now, as the community irons out flakes (which many people seem to be using already though). I also checked out jetpack-io/devbox which does fundamentally the same thing but which hides the Nix files completely underneath - so that was too restrictive for my tastes. have reproducible dev environments (basically replacing docker)įor the second use case, reproducible dev environments, I quickly settled on cachix/devenv.have a reproducible global dev tool setup (basically a replacement for Homebrew). For installing, I used the unofficial installer DeterminateSystems/nix-installer for reasons explained on the website, which ran through smoothly.Īfter doing the tutorials at, I wondered how to continue. I started by reading all of - a great website which explains the first baby steps. I by no means understand Nix fully yet, but making progress and it is usable to me already. This was on my agenda since a long time, but I finally took the plunge on my M1 OSX system. I finally had some time to play around with Nix - the immutable package manager and build system. The charts below outline our research, and beneath that you’ll find as full a list of job titles as we’ve been able to uncover. Just 27% of the 153 elevated to managing director are female, but this is decidedly better than 17.4% figure for 2013. We’ve analysed the new list of managing directors, released today by the bank, to determine which divisions they work in and where in the world they’re based. You have a great chance if you work in an investment banking advisory function, but information technology is also a prime source of senior talent now. Note: If you are looking to do your own wiring, the 30-gauge wirewrap wire I used is a Polyvinylidene fluoride coated insulation wire under the brand name of Kynar. This is because we found during testing that if we ran wires directly next to each other, it caused the partitions to fail to mount properly, most likely because noise was induced into the lines from the other lines affecting the signal. This wiring was then attached to a SD Card breakout board as shown below in Figure 1:Īlso, as you can see in the above images, the wires do not run parallel against each other, but have a reasonable gap between them and pass over each other perpendicularly when they cross over. So, all the wiring was presoldered before the IoT Village event using 30-gauge color-coded wirewrap wire. When it comes to soldering the needed wiring for this exercise, we realized allowing attendees to do the soldering connection would be much more complex than we could support. Hooking both sources – normal and SD Card – into the devices will lead to permanent damage to the device. When using an SD Card reader to supply voltage, we must avoid hooking up the device's normal source of power also. In this example, we found that the PHISON eMMC chip and NAND memory could be powered by supplying the voltage externally via the SD Card reader. This often works well when different VCC and VCCq voltages are required, but in those cases, we also have to hold the microcontroller unit (MCU) at reset state to prevent the processor from causing interruption when trying to read memory. When connecting to and interacting with an eMMC device, we usually can utilize the internal power supply of the device. However, in this case, we determined that the PHISON PS8211-0 eMMC chip did not have a different controller voltage for VCCq, meaning that the voltage used was only 3.3v for this example. To interact with typical eMMC devices, we typically need the following connections.Īs shown in the above bullets, there are typically two different voltages required to interact with eMMC chips. Wiring up eMMC and SD card breakout board In this first section of the exercise, we focused on understanding the process of gaining access to the NAND flash memory by interacting with a PHISON PS8211-0 embedded multimedia controller (eMMC). Finally, the attendee was able to power up the device and login over ethernet using SSH with root access and default device password. After the modification where completed the filesystems were repacked and written back to the modem device. Next, the user extracted the filesystem from the partition binary files and was then able to modify key elements to enable SSH access over the ethernet connection. With NAND flash memory access, the user was able to identify the partitions of interest and extract those partitions using the Linux dd command. To do this, the user interacted with the device via a PHISON PS8211-0 embedded multimedia controller (eMMC) to mount up and gain access to the NAND flash memory storage. The goal of this year's hands-on hardware hacking exercise was to gain root access to a Arris SB6190 Cable modem without needing to install any external code. Alter startup files within the embedded Linux operating system to execute code during device startup.Use unsquashfs and mksquashfs commands to unpack and repack read only squash file systems.Using Linux dd command to make binary copy of flash memory. This year's exercise focused on the following key areas: Like last year, we had many IoT Village attendees request a copy of our exercise manual, so again I decided to create an in-depth write-up about the exercise we ran, with some expanded context to answer several questions and expand on the discussion we had with attendees at this year's DEF CON IoT Village. Over the years, these exercises have covered several different embedded device topics, including how to use a Logic Analyzer, extracting firmware, and gaining root access to an embedded IoT device. Rapid7 was back this year at DEF CON 30 participating at the IoT Village with another hands-on hardware hacking exercise, with the goal of teaching attendees' various concepts and methods for IoT hacking. It largely feels like every part of the game was shipped off to completely different dev teams who didn’t have much communication with the other teams and based their short segment off of various flash web games. What does is how long you spend running around collecting points (check out the SNES game EVO, Spore feels like an imitation of that evolution system). The choices you make as an organism doesn’t really have any impact on how your creature turns out. Spore really doesn’t have anything to do with evolution at all. I’m finding Maxis games post SimCity 3000 are getting more and more about micromanagment and less about fun, straightforward gameplay. It is cute for a short while but thats about it. Tried hard to like this but I got bored fast. Whats your secret ? ( or are you just further along when you established yourself better around the galaxy ? ) but yeah, besides being raided all the bloody time, and having to build up my ship so i can more easily defend myself, i cant seem to come up with enough cash to colonize, and upgrade my ship. though i am under half done, and i am a scientist, which might not give me the skills or make it more expensive for me to play with atmospheres, and colonize. How do you do that? i find it hard to come up with money in the space age. Once my enemy surrenders, I go around and re-seed their planets My allies don’t seem to care because I’m not committing genocide (they weren’t very fond of the bomb). I’ve actually worked out a “peaceful” solution for annoying races - I chargeup and repair, and head off to their home-world, and suck the atmosphere off - no atmosphere means they can’t harvest spice - and it becomes a war of attrition, whenever they launch an attack, I go destroy another planet. |
